Dr. Joanne Reed is Group Leader of the Rheumatology and Autoimmunity Lab at the Garvan Institute. She completed her PhD in 2009 at Flinders University in Adelaide investigating autoantibodies in Sjogren’s syndrome and lupus. She then received an NHMRC CJ Martin Fellowship for postdoctoral training at New York University and Australian National University. Dr. Reed has developed single cell genomic approaches to study self-reactive B cells responsible for severe autoimmune pathology in patients with autoimmune disease. Her work aims to understand how autoantibodies develop and cause tissue injury with the goal of identifying more targeted therapies for autoimmune disease.
