Roland Martin trained in neurology and immunology at the University of Würzburg, Germany, and later the Neuroimmunology Branch, National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, NIH, Bethesda, USA. After working at the University Hospital Vall D’Hebron in Barcelona and later director of the Institute for Clinical Neuroimmunology and MS Research at the University Hospital Hamburg Eppendorf, Germany, he is now full professor for neurology and neuroimmunology at the University Zürich and heads the Neuroimmunology and Multiple Sclerosis Research Section and MS outpatient clinic at the University Hospital Zurich. The main interests of his group include disease mechanisms of MS, cellular immunology, the role of HLA molecules in MS and autoimmunity, antigen discovery in autoimmune diseases and cancer, and developing novel treatments for autoimmune diseases from the lab to early proof-of-concept in patients.
