Dr. Iryna Prots PhD
Department of Stem Cell Biology
University Hospital Erlangen
Erlangen | Germany

Iryna Prots is a group leader at the Department of Stem Cell Biology at the University Hospital of Erlangen, Germany. She studied biology in Kyiv, Ukraine and then moved to Jena, Germany within a student exchange program, where she investigated the cytoskeleton machinery. She performed her doctoral thesis in clinical immunology at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg, followed by postdoctoral studies in rheumatology and immunology at the University of Munich. Later, she joined her current laboratory at the University Hospital Erlangen, where she focused on investigation of molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration in stem cell-based cellular models. Combining her expertise in immunology, neuroscience, and stem cell biology, she established her own research group investigating inflammatory mechanisms in human neurodegenerative disorders and the role of lymphocyte-induced effects on neurons, glial cells, and on neuron-glial interactions by establishing cellular model systems using human stem cells.
